Question Answer
Sedimentary Rock = Began as sediment usually on seabed.
1) River transports rock.
2) Deposits rock at lake/sea.
3) Builds up in layers: sediments. This is known as SEDIMENTATION.
4) Weight of sediments compact bottom sediments.
5) Water is squeezed out and crystals are formed.
6) Crystals glue pieces of rock together: CEMENTATION.
7) Takes millions of years.
Examples e.g. limestone & chalk=calcium bicarbonate from plant & animal remains. Sandstone & clay - compressed
Characteristics layer appearance - strata may contain fossils
