THORNY BUSHES AND SHRUBS Rain: <70cm anually Places: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana Plants: Acacias, palms, euphorbias and cacti Animals: great Indian bustard and blackbuck
MANGROVE FORESTS Rain: Between 1000 and 1500 mm per year Places: Pichavaram mangroves in Tamil Nadu, Bhitarkanika Mangroves Forest of Odisha, by the Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat Plants: palms, hibiscus, holly, plumbago, acanthus, legumes, and myrtle, ranging from prostrate shrubs to 65-meter timber trees Animals: Royal Bengal Tiger, spotted deer, crocodiles and snakes
MONTANE FORESTS Rain: 150 to 300cm anually Places: southern portion of the Western Ghats range in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, at elevations over 1000 meters. Plants: Douglas-Fir, Lodgepole Pine, Western Larch, Subalpine Fir, Thimbleberry Animals: Mule Deer,Mountain Lion,Fisher,Wolverine, Canada Lynx,Red Squirrel, American Marten,Snowshoe Hare
