What was the Black Death?
It was a disease that made your breathing hard
It was a plague that caused lots of deaths in Europe
Where and when did the Black Death start?
When did the Black Death reach England?
What did medieval people believe the plague could be cured by?
staying in bed
drink lots of alcohol
use herbs to freshen the air
cutting open buboes
how do we believe the plague got to England?
People from other countries who were sick arrived on boats and passed on their germs
Silks were traded from other countries and they were infected with the plague
Black rats on board boats from other countries were carrying fleas which in turn were carrying bacteria. Fleas bit humans and passed on the infections.
Rats had the plague and brought it with them when they left the boats arriving in England
Where were the people who died from the Plague buried?
In graves in Church yards
