The Geon Theory of Object Recognition

Despite previous theories about how we see and recognize objects, research now suggests that we recognize basic shapes in objects.  These basic shapes are called geons or geometric icons.  There are about 24 basic shapes that our brain will automatically see and these basic shapes are the basis or the objects we see.
