equinox the time of year when the day and the night are of equal length!
solstice happens twice a year– the winter solstice and the summer solstice. marked by the longest and shortest days.
Dr. John Snow the guy who used maps to figure out the cause of a cholera outbreak in the mid 1800s. he mapped the dead and their water sources, and most of the deaths were near a certain pump. handle to the pump was removed and the outbreak stopped.
time zone a range of longitudes where a common standard time is used.
latitude east and west
longitude north and south
equator an imaginary line drawn around the earth equally distant from both poles, dividing the earth into northern and southern hemispheres! "the earth's belt"
prime meridian the equator's sister. goes through the poles. overall pretty cool gal.
mental map a map in your brain, or the way you see a space in your mind
cholera it's transmitted through food and water and it makes you have really bad poo. it can kill you so watch out.
hemisphere half of the earth– northern, southern, eastern, and western.
parallel longitude– parallel to the equator
meridian latitiude– parallel to the prime meridian!
tropic of cancer area above the equator, very warm
tropic of capricorn chillin below the equator. it's capricorn so it's cold like january. eleni that doesn't make any sense. it's chillin.
pangaea super continent– all of the continents used to be pals. then they drifted apart :/
physical geography looking at physical features like soil, climate, land formations, etc.
human geography looking at how humans interact with the world around them. agriculture, population, etc.
