William Harvey: Overview William Harvey was an English physician who made seminal contributions in anatomy. He was the first known physician to describe completely and in detail the systemic circulation and properties of blood being pumped to the brain and body by the heart
William Harvey: Studies and notable publishings Studied medicine in Paris and Padua (wouldn't have known or seen Versalius as he was dead when Harvey was in school) The Anatomical account of the motion of the hart and the blood of animals (1628)
William Harvey: Theories His theory was that blood was a constant (that it wasn't constantly evaporated, when it got to the skin, and remade in the liver) and that it was pumped through the body.
William Harvey: How he did it He used cold-blooded animals to dissect t as their hart would still pump after death. But he used humans once he really thought his theory was correct.
William Harvey: Who challenged him He was challenged by the doctors of the time and this was, again, because of gallon.
William Harvey: Did this change medicine at the time? No, his founding changed nothing at the time. But like Versailles later doctors and researchers to build there own theories upon. And there would be no transplants without him.
