    People greatly overestimate their own reactions to both pleasant and unpleasant situations When we think of going on vacation or a family member dying or having a baby, we predict our emotions and usually we predict way higher than how we'll actually feel We have a built in regulator the keeps us at about the same level whether bad or good things happen to us
