Leadership skills

There are different types of leader. A successful manager will have all of these skills and be able to adapt them to the situation

Task oriented - This is when the manger focuses on the task at hand. Very focused on keeping the project on schedual and this may mean that employee feelings are put second. Advantages Keeps tasks on deadlines Employees know where they stand Employees know what tasks should be completed by when  DisadvantagesEmployees may dislike the leader and become unhappy, this may reduce their productivity

People oriented- This is when the leader is concerned about the feelings of the team members. They are willing to let deadlines slide if an employee is having personal problems. Advantages Employees will be greatful for the empathy from their manager and so may be willing to do more for them i.e. overtime It encourages good teamwork Good feeling team members means better productivity.  Disadvantages If taken too far employees might become to friendly with thier manager and may no longer take instruction from them  Tasks may not be completed on time due to employee happiness coming first

Reward oriented- When the leader is focused on the rewards directly related to accomplishment
