Natural Systems Open System - Transfers both matter and energy can cross its boundary into the surroundings. Closed System - Transfers energy but not matter across its boundary into the surroundings. Dynamic Equilibrium - A state of balance between the inputs and outputs in a continous changing system.     INPUT:  Material or Energy moving     into a system from the outside.                                                                                                                                                                                 OUTPUT: Material or Energy moving                                                                                                                            from the system to the outside.
