GRAPHIC DESIGN Exploring Design Elements and Principals Point:- can be any shape/object- must be small in relation to the whole page/design- one of the most common points: Copyright symbolLine:- is a point that moves in space from one position to another- can be thick, thin, jagged or curved- can be used to represent form through crosshatch rendering, can be used independently to show directionShape:- can be geometric, abstract or symbolic- when 3 or more points are connected, a two dimentional shape is createdForm:- is a 3d unit such as an object.- is the element that most refer to the volume of an object or product- can be seen as a result of combining two or more shapes on a two-dimensional surfaceto represent 3 dimensionsTone:- when light reflects off a surface of an object- more light projected onto the surface, the lighter the tone will be- can enhance both 2d and 3d formsTexture- visual/ felt characteristics of a surfaceColour- Complementary Colours (shown opposite each other on a colour wheel)- Analogous colours (those existing together)- Split Complementary Colours (a colour and the colours on either side of its complement)- can help to create a focal point and organise hierarchiesLetterform:- can be used to communicate information through blocks of text- can be twisted, cropped, enlarged, overlapped, scrawled and transparent- can transform the style and design of the visualDESIGN PRINCIPLES:- how components may be organised in a visual way- usually the first steps a designer may consider/applyComposition:Figure:- The main figure in the composition. - Dominant or is the ground dominantGround: - Ground can be negative pace or vice versa.
