Arabian town of Mecca
Time where Arab tribes worshipped many different gods
At middle-age
Meditating in the desert
Heard a voice telling him:
There is only one true God, Allah
And that he, Mohammed was his prohpet
Did as the voice commanded
People began to follow the new religion
Mohammed had made enemies among supporters of the old religions
Had to flee Mecca
Escaped to Medina
Gained more supporters
Began to be known as Muslims or Moslems
His journey from Mecca to Medina in 622 is known as the Higra
Means the beginning of new life
Starts the Muslim calendar
Was pursued by soldiers
Hid in a cave
Spider in cave entrance
Made a web
Therfore soldiers did not think anyone was in there
In Medina, Mohammed was able to organise his followers into an army
In 628 this army conquered Mecca
He moved back to the Mecca in 630
He died in 632
