  • The Renaissance is important because it influenced modern day art by learning things from the Greek and Roman time and by that created a better life than the age before. I put it here because every term is extended from this idea.
  1. Florence, Italy

    Annotations:

    • Florence is an important place because it was where the Renaissance began. I put it here because it didn't start because of anything else and many important things happened in this place.

      • Florence's politics is important because it is the start of democracy. I put it here because the politics of Florence is important and the Medici Family is part of the politics of Florence.

        Annotations:

        • The Medici Family is important because it ruled Florence for a long time and made it into a rich city-state that supported intense culture activity. I put it here because the politics is controlled by them and other than rulers, they are also patrons that pay for artworks.

          Annotations:

          • Patrons are important because they support artists so that they can create more work and because of them arts are able to spread widely. I put it under the Medici Family because they are a big part of the patrons.
        2. Machiavelli

          Annotations:

          • He is important because he wrote a book about his ideas about how rulers should rule and I think many rulers use his idea to rule. I put him here because he had been observing the politics of Florence for a long time.

        Annotations:

        • Change is important because many ideas and things changed during the Renaissance. I put it next to Renaissance because it is the main idea of this time.
        1. Rebirth of Classical Ideas

          Annotations:

          • The rebirth of classical ideas is important because people during the Renaissance learned from classical ideas and improve from that. I put it next to change because of classical ideas, humanism was developed and because of humanism, people started to change from listening to the church to questioning everything. 
          1. Ancient Greece and Rome

            Annotations:

            • Ancient Greece and Rome are important because people of the Renaissance learned from their arts, architecture, and ideas. I put it here because they belonged to the Classical period.
            1. Literature

              Annotations:

              • I put it here because writer during the Renaissance read about Greek and Roman writing and found out that they could write about their life and things that happen in their life rather than about something that isn't really literature.
              1. Non Religious Themes

                Annotations:

                • Non religious themes are important because people began to write about their feelings, so we can know what people during that time thought about their life and what was their life like. I put it here because people began to change the topic of literature into non religious themes.

                  Annotations:

                  • Shakespeare is important because he is a great playwright and a fine poet. I put him here because the things he wrote, plays and poems are kinds of literature.

                  Annotations:

                  • Humanism was important because it changed people's way of thinking. It tells people to question everything. I put it here because this idea was inspired by Greek and Roman culture.
                  1. Petrarch

                    Annotations:

                    • Petrarch is important because he is considered to be the founder of Italian Renaissance humanism. I put him here because I think I should separate him from other terms because he is really important. Although he was a poet, I still didn't put him with literature because I think literature is inspired by humanism, but he first started humanism, so maybe his work had nothing to do with this literature.
                    1. Literature

                      Annotations:

                      • Literature is important because it influenced the topic of what modern day writer write about. I put it here because it is influenced by humanism. Writers were interested in individual experiences in real life. They began to write about their thoughts about life rather than about religious topics, which is different from the medieval time.
                      1. Science

                        Annotations:

                        • Science was important because modern day science was influenced by this time. They started to observe things and do experiment rather than use their brain to image and infer. I put it here because it is influenced by humanism. People started to question about ideas in ancient Greek and Roman texts.
                        1. Galileo

                          Annotations:

                          • Galileo is important because he proved that a heavier object and a lighter object fall at the same rate. He also built the first telescope. I put him here because he and Copernicus both studied about the sky, but Galileo was younger than Copernicus.
                          1. Leonardo da Vinci

                            Annotations:

                            • I put him here because he was a great scientist that provided a lot of science knowledge to us by putting down his observations and ideas in his notebook. He studied astronomy and human bodies. He also made many things.

                            1. Vesalius

                              Annotations:

                              • Vesalius was important because he made many discoveries about the human body. He wrote a book about it that changed people's knowledge  about human anatomy. This book is considered the first modern medical textbook. I put him below da Vinci because they both studied the human body, but Vesalius is younger than da Vinci. 
                              1. Medicine

                                Annotations:

                                • Medicine is important because without medicine people will die easily. I put it here because Vesalius's book changed physicians understanding about medicine.
                              2. Copernicus

                                Annotations:

                                • Copernicus is important because he changed people's understanding of the solar system. Before people thought that the earth in the center, but he found out that they were wrong. The truth is the sun is in the middle and the other planets surround it.  I put him here because he is a scientist that contributed a lot.
                              3. Art

                                Annotations:

                                • I put art here because it is influenced by humanism. They began to make the people of their painting or sculpture look real.
                                1. Independent Thinking

                                  Annotations:

                                  • Independent thinking is important because it tells people to not always believed in the things other people told you because they are not always right. I put it here because it is the main thing that humanism teaches.
                                  1. Power of the Church and kings Challenged

                                    Annotations:

                                    • The power of the Church and kings challenged was important because it helped the society to go toward democracy. I put it here because it was also because of humanism that the church and kings were challenged. Humanists told people to question everything, but the church told everyone to believed in them without questioning.
                                  2. Architecture

                                    • Architecture is important because some of the ideas are still used today. I put it here because Renaissance architects studied Greek and Roman ruins and modeled their own building from things they learned.
                                    1. Brunelleschi

                                      Annotations:

                                      • Brunelleschi was important because he achieved one of the greatest achievement in the world. He was the first one to built the dome in Florence successfully and he did it without using beams or columns to support. I put him here because he is one of the greatest architects.

                                            Annotations:

                                            • He is important because he was one of the first sculptors to use the new, more lifelike style. I put him here because he was a sculptor that influenced Michelangelo.

                                              • He is important because he was famous for both his painting and sculpture. He is also a poet and architect. I put him here because he is a great artist and he is influenced by Donatello.

                                              • Science is important because it helped artists figure out how to divide the spaces in the drawing so that it will look more lifelike. I put it here because science helped to make art better.

                                                • Perspective is important because it influenced how modern day artist draw and it also makes the drawing realer. I put it here because it is developed from science. People create perspective by using science.

                                                • Raphael is important because he is one of the famous artist that painted and designed many great pieces of work. I put him here because he is the artist that drew The School of Athens.

                                            Annotations:

                                            • Printing was important because it helped spread ideas to more people and to further places. I put it here because I think it has connections with humanism, but that is because printing help spread their idea, so I think it will be better to separate them.

                                              Annotations:

                                              • Gutenberg is important because he improved printing method so he is known as the inventor of printing in Europe. I put him here because he contributed a lot to printing.

                                                • The printed bible is important because it is neat and there are almost no mistakes. People can also get them easily. I put it under Gutenberg because he lost his printing business in order to print the bible.
