Paragraph 6- Third Esate Rising Discontent -Bourgeousie -Affected by Enlightenment, American Revolution and new aspirations -Tailles burden (taxes) -Taxation -Gabelle -Tithes -Aims were to feed their families and to keep their lands and to worry how to pay the heavy burden of taxation -blamed anything they could for their ‘bad luck’ such as Madam Deficit, or the king’s disloyalty or the rights of the seigneurs to whom they owed tithes and tailles. -Sick of costs to maintain first estate -Wanted equality -Wanted political representation -Tennis Court Oath- 20th June 1789 restricted the middle class from achieving their ambitions. The demand for a National Assembly was intended to force the king to recognise the rights of the French nation and people. It was the key members of the nobility and the bourgeoisie who led the call for the Assembly but when they were locked out of the Assembly and met on the ‘Tennis Court’, the bourgeoisie were instrumental in pushing for greater representation. -Jacque-Louis David painting= great wind of change, unified estates -Louis calls in army -All leads to Storming of Bastille - July 14 1789
