Question Answer
types of muscle 1. Skeletal or voluntary= allow us to move and create movement 2.involuntary=perform without conscious control, found in walls of internal organs (excluding heart) 3.cardiac=muscles found in the walls of the heart
Antagonistic pair muscles work in pair so movement can occur, when one muscle contracts the opposite must relax
Agonist/prime mover the muscle that is doing the work, this muscle creates movement
antagonist the antagonist must relax when the agonist is contracting to allow movement to occur
concentric (isotonic) -muscle shortens -origin and insertion get closer together
eccentric (isotonic) -muscle lengthens because of gravity -origin and insertion get further apart
isometric -muscles remain the same length -there is no movement
slow twitch muscle fibres Oxygen supply=good type of exercise=all fatigue=long time without tiring contraction speed=slower fibre size=small and weak sport suited for= cycling, marathons
fast twitch muscle fibres oxygen supply=poor type of exercise=explosive fatigue=short time before tiring contraction speed=fast fibre size=big and strong sport suited for=100m, triple jump
