Question Answer
Diffusion Diffusion is the spreading of the particles of a gas,or of any substance in solution, resulting in a net movement from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration
Osmosis The net movement of water molecules from a region of high water potential to a region of lower water potential, through a partially permeable membrane
What is the function of: a) Nucleus b) Cell membrane c) Cytoplasm d) Mitochondria e) Ribosomes a) Controls the activities in the cell b) Controls what enters and exits the cell c) Where most of the chemical reactions take place d) Site of respiration e) Site of protein synthesis
What is the function of these plant organelles: a) Chloroplasts b) Vacuole a) The site of photosynthesis b) Filled with cell sap
What does a bacterial cell consist of? A bacterial cell consists of cytoplasm and a membrane surrounded by a cell wall; the genes are not in a distinct nucleus - in a strand of DNA or plasmids
What does a yeast cell consist of? Yeast is a single-celled organism. Yeast cells have a nucleus, cytoplasm and a membrane surrounded by a cell wall.
Give an example of a specialised cell, it function and how it is adapted to do that function Example: A sperm cells job is to fertilise an egg, it has a tail to swim quickly to the egg, also it has a lot of mitochondria in its head for extra energy as well as digestive substances to get through the membrane
What is the correct order: organ, cell, organ system, tissue cell - tissue - organ - organ system
Name the 3 different types of tissue and their functions Muscular tissue, which can contract to bring about movement Glandular tissue, which can produce substances such as enzymes and hormones Epithelial tissue, which covers some parts of the body.
Describe what different tissues do in an example human organ Muscular tissue, to churn the contents Glandular tissue, to produce acid and enzymes Epithelial tissue, to cover the outside and the inside of the stomach.
