Vietnam? The USA and South Vietnam refused to obey the accords and President Eisenhower committed even more US aid to South Vietminh even though the French had left Vietnam.
What is the Domino theory? The Domino theory greatly influenced Eisenhower actions this suggested that as one country became communist countries near it were more likely to become communist as well.Also known as the red scare.
what is and when did Dien Bien phu happen? Firstly the Vietminh had greater knowledge of local conditions they also had more support to help make more roads and supplies.The Vietminh also had a very committed army and the trench had underestimated the Vietminh and the extent in which they were armed.China supplied the Vietminh with weapons,troops and helped with planning.
The Gulf of Ton-kin incident/Escalation under Johnson. By the end of 1964 President Johnson had over 20,000 US advisers in Vietminh the US congress to authorise the use of US troops.Two US Navy ships 'The Maddox' and 'The Tomer Jay; patrolled the Gulf of Ton-kin.Small US boats were ferry-in AURN troops to do raids in the north Vietnam.Also on the 2nd of August 1964 3 north Vietnamese torpedo boats closed in on 'The Maddox' and spots were fired from both sides.
When was the Vietcong/Rolling thunder/Tet? It was between 1964-1968 basically the US military wanted immediate and heavy bombing of north Vietnam including Hanoi Johnson did not want to escalate the war so instead rolling thunder started slowly near the border with south Vietnam and not target Hanoi. Instead it targeted the Ho Chi Minh Trail to stop supplies and what little industry there was i North Vietnam and Napolium was dropped which sticks to the shins and burns you to the bone also pineapple bombs were dropped that had exploding canisters.
when was Cambodia/Laos? It happened between 1969-1973 and Nixon ordered the bombing of the Hochi Minh along the border with Cambodia but did not make these public knowledge as it would be seen as expanding the war and would be very popular at home.
What is Vietnamisation? This would involved the USA withdrawing Vietnam being communist.Also US troops with draw AURN provide the4ir own offices and US provided training and equipment and south Vietnam separate country which isn't communist.
Opposition to the war-what forms did it take? Opposition responded to key events such as the Tet defense or Cambodia.Long term causes of opposition include the rising death toll,the cost of war and Black Americans who didn't go into the war had to face racism daily.And by 1970 there were 8.5 million students in the US and whilst not apposed to war a significant number of them did.
Support for war Hawks and Hardhats. Hard hat was a nickname for construction workers.After Kent state university shooting.There were demonstrations all over the country to protest at the shooting and in sympathy with the families of the dead students.
The war ends-Paris peace accord-cost to USA. $167 billion dollars was spent which could of been used improving the lives of Americans back at home.Also the USA had lost faith by losing to a smaller less industrialized nation.Also the USA by 23rd of March 1973 there were only 150 USA Marines still in South Vietnam although there were 10,000 advisers.

part 2:Political and economic strength -There was no obvious opposition to the war in North Vietnam. -The Vietcong were well established and were a good organization. -China and the USSR sent billions of dollars worth of aid to North Vietnam.Laos and Cambodia allowed the Hochi Minh trail to operate.
part 3: Military strengths -The Vietminh and Vietcong were used to fighting in jungle conditions using guerrila tactics.
Part 4:Weaknesses -Had little grasp of what Vietnam was like. -Used interpreters rather than learning about the language which made it difficult to gain trust of the Vietmanese people.
extra info The supporters came from different social groups such as 'hard hats' who were construction workers and the 'silent majority' a group who sent 50,000 telegrams to president Nixon in 1969 and political supporters who supported the gulf of Tonkin resolution.
