Equation A mathematical sentence with an equal sign, like 5x + 2 = 10
Expression A combination of numbers, variables and at least one operation, such as: 5x + 2
Term A portion of an expression separated by addition and subtraction signs
Like Terms Terms that contain the same variables with raised to the same powers. Ex. 4x and 8x
Coefficient The number in front of the variable
Variable An unknown number represented by a letter. This value can also vary or change.
Constant Term A fixed value in a mathematical sentence
Operation A mathematical process such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
