Work is the product of Force and DisplacementW=F*SJust remeber: IF the DISPLACEMENT is cause by INERTIA and not by FORCE then there is NO WORK DONE on the object. IF the FORCE cannot cause DISPLACEMENT such as hold the object in the middle of the air, then there is no WORK DONE on the object.

Mechanical Energy is the combination of Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy Potential Energy is also called Store Energy which means the Energy is not yet been released. Such as Graviational Potential energy and Elastic Potential Energy. Kinetic Energy is the energy of motion In a frictionless system Potential Energy Ep and Kinetic Energy can be transformed from one to another, this is called the conservation of mechanical energy. It takes energy to do WORK but objects in the motion of inertia still have kinetic energy.
