Sept. 12   Opposites and Absolute Values Page 36  section 1-9

Rules:   if  a is positive, then -a is negative             if a is negative, then  -a is positive             if a =0, then -a=0             The opposite of -a is a; that is, -(-a)=a

Examples:  -(7+9)  = -16      -(-1.8) = 1.8                -n+14, if n = -8                                                                              -(-8) +14                                                                             8 +14 = 22
