Do we want to alter our beliefs of deny the information?    Well, studies show cognitive dissonance, is when two ideas cannot go together, so you either have the option to change our beliefs, or believe that the other information is a lie.

Research shows, that if you are somehow forced, you will change your belief, but otherwise, you will stick to your original belief, and you will work harder at trying to prove that you are correct, even if you are unsure.
