Unpredictability is also  key factor in dopamine it stimulates the dopamine systems. Example is electronics, like texts that show up , but the time it shows up is unpredictable. Same as gambling and slot machines, its why people are addicted to the  phone or gambling, it stimulates the dopamine systems.   The dopamine systems are extremely sensitive to rewards, knowing they are coming.  The Pavlovian relax is when a russian scientist Ivan Pavlov decided to experiment on dogs. When dogs see food they begin to salivate and so he decided to associate the food with a bell so every time the dog would hear the bell he'd begin to salivate with out the food being present. All of this is true with emails or text messages. Short text messages more addictive and ideal for the dopamine system.
