Resource summary
The Lungs
When you breathe in your lungs expand because ;
Your diaphragm contracts and moves down so that the new oxygen can fill the lungs
Your intercostal muscles (the muscles between your ribs )are contracting to lift your ribs up and outwards
When the muscles in your thorax relax this means you are brething out
Breathing in increases the size of your thorax
