Resource summary
Unit 1.3 v2
There are 3 Main types of storage Optical, Solid State and Magnetic
Optical
Optical Storage was used for CD’s and DVD’s because once they are given to someone else it can’t be edited
This use to be the way people had music and how they watched dvds
Solid State
Solid State is the type of secondary storage people would use for their Phones
It is very cheap and Robust the use it for scanners
Made of microchips so it can process data faster this makes work easier
Magnetic
They can be modified so it can be read only
This is when Magnetic sockets go in and out of the drive
Secondary Storage is non volatile so the data won’t delete after every reboot
We need secondary storage because we can’t hold enough data with RAM.
When Buying Secondary Storage
Is it Cheap?
Is it Robust?
Is it Portable?
Is it Durable?
Is it fast?
How much data can it hols
