Explain 'reciprocity' in terms of attachments. Reciprocity is a feature of caregiver-infant interactions. Caregiver and infant both take active roles in initiating interactions. Mothers take note of the interactions 2/3 of the time - Feldman (2007)
Explain 'interactional synchrony' in terms of attachments. Interactional synchrony is a feature of caregiver-infant interactions. When caregiver an infant mirror each other's behaviours and emotions. "The temporal co-ordination of micro-level social behaviour" - Feldman (2007)
{Definition} Reciprocity A description of how two people interact. Mother-infant interaction is reciprocal in that both infant and mother respond to each other's signals and each elicits a response from the other.
{Definition} Interactional Synchrony Mother and infant reflect both the actions and emotions of the other and do this in a co-ordinated (synchronised) way.
Evaluation of Caregiver-Infant Interactions :) Pros: ~ Controlled observations = fine detail. :( Cons: ~ Purpose of reciprocity and synchrony unknown. ~ Hard to know what's happening when observing infants.
