What is a cadence? A sequence of chords that brings an end to a phrase, either in the middle or the end of a composition.
What is a Programme music is music for instruments which describes something or tells a story
What is homophonic texture? a texture in which two or more parts move together in harmony, the relationship between them creating chords
What is polyphonic texture? melodic parts move with rhythmic independence
What is monoponic texture? all parts move in parallel rhythm and pitch
What is sonata form? Basically ABA form. Usually the first movement of the piece serving as the exposition, a development, or recapitulation.
What is rondo form? A musical form where the principal theme is repeated several times. The rondo was often used for the final movements of classical sonata form works. ABA/ ABACA/ ABACABA
What is a cadenza? Originally an improvised cadence by a soloist. Later it became a written out passage to display performance skills of an instrumentalist or performer.
What is a cantana? Music written for chorus and orchestra. Most often religious in nature.
What is an ostinato? A repeated phrase.
