| What is environment? | The place, people, things and nature that surround any living organism is called environment. It is the basic life support system that helps us live. It is a combination of natural and human-made phenomena. |
| What are the major components of the environment ? | The major components of the environment are natural environment (consists of all objects created by nature), human environment (consists of human beings) and human made environment (consists of objects created by human beings). |
| What do you mean by natural environment? | The environment that consists of all objects created by nature is called natural environment. The natural environment comprises of land, water, air, plants and animals. |
| Give for examples for human made environment. | Parks, buildings, roads and industries are some examples of human made environment. |
| What is lithosphere? | Lithosphere (or the domain of land) is the solid crust or the hard top layer of the earth. It is made up of rocks and minerals and is covered by a thin layer of soil. It is an irregular surface with various landforms such as mountains, plateaus, plains and valleys. |
| What is an ecosystem? | Ecosystem is the system formed by the interaction of all living organisms with each other and with the physical and chemical factors of the environment in which they live, all linked by transfer of energy and material. |
| Which are the two major components of biotic environment? | The two major components of the biotic environment are plants and animals. |
| What is biosphere? | Biosphere is the narrow zone of the earth were land, water and air interact with each other to support life. |
| What is barter system? | Barter system is a trade in which goods are exchanged without the use of money. It is an old system for exchanging goods. People used to exchange goods directly for goods offered by others |
| How have human beings adapted to the environment to fulfill their needs? | Early humans lead a simple life and fulfilled their requirements from the nature around them. As their needs increased, they modified the environment. They learnt to grow crops, tamed animals, invented the wheel and began a settled life. Industrial revolution made possible large scale production. Trade and commerce started. Transport and communication became easier and faster. |
