Question Answer
Octet Rule Atoms are most stable with eight electrons in the outer shell.
Hund's Rule Each orbital in a sublevel must have one electron before they begin to pair up.
Pauli Exclusion Principle 1. No two electrons in the same atom can have the same set of 4 quantum numbers. (Two electrons could not occupy the same space at the same time.) 2. Two electrons in the same orbital must have opposite spins.
Aufbau Principle Electrons fill orbitals from low energy to high.
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle It is fundamentally impossible to know precisely both the velocity and position of an electron at the same time.
