Summarise the Gulf of Tonkin incident 1964 LBJ claimed that the North Vietnamese made unprovoked attacks on the Maddox and the Turner Joy in the Gulf of Tonkin. The incident persuaded Congress to pass a resolution as it allowed US's intervention.
What was the Tet Offensive (1968)? The Tet Offensive was a coordinated series of North Vietnamese attacks on more than 100 cities and outposts in South Vietnam.
What was the media's role in the Vietnam War? The dramatic scenes in Saigon were headline news in the US which challenged the government's position and made the people oppose the war. When presenting the images of Tet, Cronkite and others felt lied to by the government as they felt that LBJ was lying about the US winning.
