Define Athletic Trainer A healthcare professional who collaborates with physicians and specializes in providing immediate intervention when injuries occur and helping athletes and clients in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving injury, impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.
Define Registered Dietician A food and nutrition expert that has met the following criteria: completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree of a US accredited university, or other college coursework approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education CADE; completed a CADE– accredited supervised practice program; passed a national examination; and completed continuing education requirements to maintain registration.
Define Professional Certification A voluntary process by which a non-– governmental body, such as ACE, grants a time – limited recognition and use of a credential to individuals who have demonstrated that they have met the criteria for required knowledge, skills, or competencies for safe and effective practice in a specific job role. A renewal process is associated with certification that requires the certificant to obtain continued education, or in some fields pass arecertification exam, in order to retain the credential. The credential awarded by the certifier denotes that the participant possesses particular knowledge, skills, and/or competencies to practice in the profession.
Define Certificant an individual who has a credential awarded to a certification program.
Define Knowledge-Based Certificate recognizes a relatively narrow scope of specialized knowledge used in performing duties or tasks as part of a certain profession or occupation. This certificate is generally issued after the individual passes an assessment instrument. Examples include continuing education courses – – generally on one topic with in a broader content area – – such as online courses or webinars with a quiz from ACE and other educators
Define Certificate education or training program on a specific topic for which participants receive a certificate after attendance and/or completion of the course work. Some programs also require successful demonstration of attainment of the course objectives, such as a post – course assessment of knowledge or practical demonstration. One who completes a certificate program is known as a certificate holder. Importantly, a professional certification for license is usually not granted at the completion of a certificate program. There are primary three types of certificate programs; knowledge – based, curriculum – based, and certificate of completion or participation.
Define Curriculum-Based Certificate issued after an individual completes a course or series of courses and passes and assessment instrument. The content of the assessment is limited to the course content and therefore may not be completely representative of us professional practice. Examples include more robust curriculum –-based courses, series of courses, or specialty certifications with assessments of knowledge such as ACE specialty certifications and equipment – based courses that end in assessment or practical demonstration.

Define Registration either the professional designation defined by a governmental entity and professional regulations or rules, or to a listing,or registry, of practitioners. Depending on the profession, they may or may not be educational, experiential or competency-based requirements. Registration also may give a time – limited status, thereby authorizing the individuals to practice, similar to Licensure. The United States registry of exercise professionals US are EPS, is an internationally recognized registration of exercise professionals in the United States that is maintained by the coalition for the registration of exercise professionals CREP. All currently ACE certified GFI‘s are listed on www.usreps.org.
Define Code of Ethics A written set of guidelines issued by an organization to its workers and management to help them conduct their actions in an accordance with its primary values and ethical standards
Define Body Fat A component of the body, the primary role of which is to store energy for later use.
