Question Answer
What is a gene? A section of DNA that codes for different polypeptides
What do genes determine? The nature and development of all organisms.
A gene is a.. sequence of amino acids
If the sequence of an amino acid alters, what happens consequently to the rest of the cell? sequence of AA's alter, polypeptides alter and therefore the proteins made (or not made) alter, different enzymes and so may not be able to carry out thei function efficiently/at all
What is the triplet code? Scientists suggested that their must be three bases that code for each amino acid.
How many amino acids regularly occur in proteins (approximately)? 20
How many different bases are present in DNA? Four- adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine
