The main western power was very interested in Japan USA. to make sure the trading would be real, USA send two warships in a form of "gun-boat diplomacy"
On March 1854, Japan politicians finally agreed with the Treaty of Kanagawa This event opened 2 of the japan´s ports to USA trade this gave to the USA the tittle of "Most Favored Nation"
Japan´s policy seclusions finally ended after 200 years This lead to the rapid emergence of Japan as an important international power
In 1858 Japan signed the TReaty of Amity to started the commerce with the USA the imperial court was opposed, it was dominated by nationalist. Japan was pressured to sign similar treaties with other Western Nations
Meiji Restoration all the treaties signed (without the emperor´s consent) made important concession to the Western Powers.
Anti-government movements started in Japan The main advocates of resistance who were prepared to kill and die for their cause where known as "Shishi"
Thier inspiration was Aizawa Sheishisai and Sakuma Zozan. Sakuma got many ideas from the western science and technology "Easten Morals and Western Science"
Yoshida Shoin wanted the old feudal system to be transformed to stablish the national unity. it would enable Japan to resist to the power of the Western Nations
The feeling of nationalist resentment at Western an dthe control cointiuned growing this caused that the Choshu Clan leaders were able to persuade the emperor to adopt a anti-western policy
The emperor died in 1866, and was replaced by the emperor Meiji He was influenced by those who opposed the government, the the threat of a civil war finally persuaded
1868; the emperor stablished the imperial court in Edo. after that the imperial system continued without interruptions in Japan. the main aim was to prevent Japan from suffering the fate of other Asian nations
