How to answer a B question.

This kind of question asks you to apply your knowledge to one ore more of the religions you have studied. It always starts: 'Explain how a having a religious faith might...' The examiner is asking you to examine a religious persons' actions and give suggestions for why they believe this way using religious evidence. THIS QUESTION IS WORTH A TOTAL OF 4 MARKS.Example.Explain how having a religious faith might encourage a person to get married. You can choose to answer this question with a Christian in mind, or a Muslim in mind. You can even refer to both religious traditions. (Answer this question from whichever religions you've studied perspective). To get full marks answering this question you should either give two basic points and an example OR one basic point, and example and a well-developed explanation. The examiner is looking for good use of religious language in your answers so take every opportunity to throw in some specialist terms. Without any specialist language, you are unlikely to get more than 1 mark for your answer.

Use P.E.E (Point, Example, Explanation) to structure your answers.

Split it into two sections: What does the religion teach about the subject. What is the evidence? How do the religious believers behave?

Using two P.E.E's will bring you to the highest possible level, technically above the 4 mark limit. This way you're guaranteed to do well.

Explain how a religious believer might respond to Allah. A Muslim would use prayer to respond to Allah. Prayer is an important channel of education between Allah and his creation because it enables Muslims to have a personal relationship with Him. They also read the Qur'an as a response to Allah. The third pillar of Islam is zakah, and it requires every Muslim to give 2.5 % of their spare income to the needy. Muslims believe this is what Allah wants people to do. Pilgrimage, or hajj, is another way to respond to Allah and it is believed that is required to go on hajj at least once in a lifetime. Not only does this pilgrimage fulfill their religious obligation, but it gives many Muslims an intense spiritual experience of Allah. For most Muslims, the best response to Allah is living the sort of life he requires by obeying the Qur'an and following the guidance of religious leaders and parents.
