Light microscopes have a magnifying lens- helps to see inner structure of cells magnified 1000s of times. Electron microscopes magnify 1,000,000 of times and shows the inner structure of smaller bacterial cells

Calculations: image size= object size X magnification    IO X Me.g. miscroscope magnification= 400 and image looks 20mm across, the object O= I/M= 20mm/ 400= 0.5mm across.
