   3. The Wesley college article indicates that despite girls accomplishments in education, they still struggle in areas of higher mathematics and self-esteem. Girls also lag behind in earnings and opportunities.
   4. In "The Truth About Boys and Girls", Mead argues that boys and girls are doing equally well, despite negligible differences in test scores.
   5. The article entitled "Pay closer attention: Boys are struggling academically" suggests that boys are lagging behind girls in test scores and grades - so much that private colleges have started Affirmative Action for boys. (Whitmire, 2004)
2. Level 2: Sources After 2010. Choose 5 of the 8 new articles I provided, or search the web for others. Any combination is also fine. In the bubbles below, record the main idea of each.
   1. Heitin argues that science teachers spend more time addressing boys than girls. In addition, girls feel the effects of this instance of time discrimination.
   2. Robelen asserts that the global reading gap for boys is much larger than the global math gap for girls.
   3. Adams indicates that more women are going to college than men, because boys are more likely to go to high schools that disadvantage them (by being less rigorous).
   4. Robelen argues that girls are more anxious about math when they are outside of class.
   5. Sparks argues two main points: boys who participate in fine arts have better grades than their female counterparts. Girls who participate in sports have better grades than their male counterparts.
3. Level 1: At least three connections go in bubbles on this level. What have you found to remain the same throughout both time periods (before 2010 and after 2010) concerning girls' and boys' ed? Write these connections in boxes/bubbles on this level.

   • Here is where you show evidence of your thinking. Connect the pieces about boys and girls' education that you have found to be the same in sources before 2010 (which we read for the discussions) and in sources you found dated after 2010.
   1. Mead/Robelen: Girls' reading scores are higher than those of the boys
   2. Mead/Adams: More women are going to college, by a significant margin. The minority gender gap is even bigger.
   3. Mead/Robelen: Boys' math scores are higher than those of the girls
4. Level 3: What differences in the updated information did you find? Compare articles dated after 2010 to those dated before 2010. Record at least three.
   1. Heitin's assertion about science teachers paying more attention to boys is a large difference from the findings prior to 2010.
   2. Robelen's argument about girl anxiety about math is a seemingly new finding, relative to 2010
   3. In general, the articles dated after 2010 are more specific in their feedback concerning academic development. For instance, Sparks argues that boys do better in a certain elective (such as fine arts), whereas Mead simply argues that boys and girls test differently.
   4. The psychology of boys and girls is more readily apparent in the articles dated after 2010. For instance, Robelen's assertion about girl's math anxiety is not quite something that Greene may necessarily argue.
   5. Level 4: Look at sources dated after 2010 that your group found for this week's discussion posts. On this level, show at least two likenesses (to the right) and two differences(to the left) you found as you studied these and ANY other works we have studied in the course. Cite your findings.
      1. Men hold more prominent jobs, as indicated by both the Adams article and the Koebler article. (Koebler, 2013)
      2. Sparks has the only viewpoint on rural kids as a general comparison to all articles we have discussed this semester - the others only address suburban and urban kids.
         1. Current events and government is not necessarily addressed in any of the articles we have looked at for this week. In an extra-curricular article, the political awareness of men and women is addressed. (Otto, 2013)
      3. Holistically Girls are turned off to careers involving science and math, as evidenced by Heitin, Robelen, and Paton. (Paton, 2014)
      4. Level 5: What conclusion(s) have you drawn about girls and boys' education as a result of synthesizing all you have read for this assignment?
         1. From a testing standpoint, girls and boys have negligible differences in math and reading.

         2. Psychologically, there seems to be a clear divide in academic performance between girls and boys. Current teachers do not necessarily address these issues effectively in the classroom.
            1. There are many supplementary opinions about girls and boys in education.
         3. More women are going to college than men, despite their aversion to math and science.
