Resource summary
Power, Current and charge
When an electricity charge flows through a resistor, the resistor gets hot.
Energy has been transformed from electrical energy into heat energy
Power (watts, W) = Energy transferred/transformed (Joules, J) Time Taken (Seconds, S)
P=E T
Power (Watts, W) = Current (Amperes, A) x Potential difference (Volts, V)
P = I x V
This heating effect occurs in all types of resistance not just resistors
therefore the cables themselves and all electrical devices generate heat depending on their resistance
