    1. Why is it important to form salts?
      1. Formation of salts causes a great increase in the solubility of the substance
        1. Potassium, sodium and calcium salts form with acidic drugs
          1. Sulphate, tartrates with basic drugs
          2. By forming a salt there is a change in the pH of the diffusion layer therefore allowing the drug to dissolve more easily (increases saturation solubility)
