Hormones and Nerves
  1. Hormones
    1. Hormones are chemicals secreted by endocrine glands in the body. Different hormones affect different target organs.
      1. Ovary
        1. oestrogen
          1. ovaries, uterus
          2. progesterone
            1. uterus
          3. pancreas
            1. insulin
              1. liver
            2. testies
              1. testosterone
                1. male reproductive organs
            3. Slower message
              1. Act for a long time
                1. more general way
                  1. chemical message

              3. Nerves
                1. Neurons transmit information all around the body
                  1. neurons have branched endings called dendrons to connect with other neurons.
                    1. the electrical impulse is passed along the axon of the cells
                      1. there's a myelin sheath along the axon that acts as an electrical insulator, it stops impulses getting lose. it also speeds up electrical impulses
                        1. there are three types
                          1. sensory neurone
                            1. carry signals from receptors to the spinal cord and brain
                            2. Relay neurone
                              1. carry messages from one part of the CNS to another.
                              2. Motor neurone
                                1. carry signals from the CNS to effectors.
                              3. Synapse (tiny gap)
                                1. signals cross this gap using chemicals released by a neurone
                                  1. an electrical signal travels along the axon
                                    1. the nerve-ending of the neuron releases chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. They bind with receptor molecules on the membrane of the next neuron.
                              4. Very Fast message
                                1. very short time
                                  1. very precise area
                                    1. electrical message
                                2. neurone
