Gettier: JTB can't account for epistemic
luck - (a) Smith and Jones at the job
interview (b) Brown in Barcelona
Nozick: tracking theory and the 4
conditions - JTB and must satisfy (3) P > S
and (4) ¬P > ¬S
But there remains problems with ethical
and mathematical knowledge - the
former because of antirealism and the
later because of human fallibility when it
comes to the proof method
Scepticism: what if we're
dreaming or in a vat or think
something is true but have yet
to discover its falsity? Think
about geocentric to
heliocentric paradigm shift...
Belief: what about Albert who is
doing a history test and thinks that
he has forgotten when Elizabeth I
died, thus not believing he knows
the answer, but in fact correctly
answering? Is he without belief?
