OUTER CORE

INNER CORE

3. Solid and made up of iron and nickel
4. Temperatures of up to 5,500 degrees celcius
5. Immense heat energy
MANTLE
1. Widest section of the Earth
2. Thickness of approximately 2,900 km
3. Made up of semi-molten rock called magma
4. In the upper parts of the mantle the rock is hard
5. Lower down the rock is soft and beginning to melt
CRUST
1. Outer layer of the earth
2. Thin layer between 0-60 km thick
3. Solid rock layer upon which we live
4. Continental crust is primarily made up of silica and alumina called the "sial"
