1. Full
  1. Whole system is saved
2. Differential
  1. Data changed since the last full backup is saved
3. Incremental
  1. Data changed since the last backup was saved, whether that is full, differential or incremental
Procedures
1. Individual
  1. Memory stick every few months
2. Small business
  1. Hard disk at end of the week
3. Medium business
  1. Magnetic tape every night
4. Large business
  1. Hard disk live (writing to several disks concurrently)
Recovery procedures if you will need to ensure restoration of data
1. Alternative accomodation
2. Availability of staff at short notice to help recover backups
3. Availability of replacement hardware to load the backup data onto
4. Availability of alternative communication lines for network/ Internet
5. Training of staff to instruct them how to get things back to normal again
6. Testing of recovery procedures

1. Memory Stick
2. Optical Disks, e.g. CD-RW
3. Magnetic Tape
4. RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive disks)
