Strengths and Weaknesses of the Weimar Constitution
  1. Weaknesses
    1. 1. The President had too much power. It was possible he could turn himself into a dictator.
      1. 2. Proportional representation meant that no party could get a majority so there were many coalitions
        1. 3. In 1919 the Republic had many enemies. It was not sensible to give equal rights to those who wished to destroy it.
        2. Strengths
          1. 1. All Germans had equal rights including the right to vote.
            1. 2. A strong president was necessary to keep control over the government and to protect the country in a crisis.
              1. Proportional representation made sure that political parties were allocated seats in Parliament in proportion to the number of votes they received.
