What is the overall function of any type of transactional writing. To make things happen. Whatever the form or purpose, all transactional writing texts are intended to make the audience do something in response to the text.
What is SPAF? Subject - what you are being asked to write about Purpose - one or more of the 5 purposes Audience - who the intended reader of the text is Form - the type of text you are asked to create.
Why is SPAF important in transactional writing? Because it helps you to make appropriate & informed choices of language and structural devices to adapt your writing about the subject to suit the form, audience & purpose.
How are the transactional writing tasks connected to the non-fiction texts? By theme. The themes of the writing tasks will always be the same as themes of the non-fiction texts in section A.
What are the 5 purposes of transactional writing? Argue Persuade Advise Inform Explain One of these will be the primary purpose of each task but you will also need to include conventions from some of the others as secondary purposes.
For which purpose do you always need to include an opposite point of view to your own? Writing to argue. Writing to argue must always include counter-argument, points from the opposite side to the one which you are arguing for.
If you need to include facts or statistics in your response what are the two ways in which you could find these? 1) Take them from the non-fiction texts in section A of the paper. 2) Make them up! If writing to inform or explain make sure you keep you fictional facts and statistics believable.
What is Standard English? Formal English which follows the generally agreed grammatical rules including contractions. It does not include slang or idioms from everyday speech.
How many marks are awarded for spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary? 16
How many marks is the transactional writing task worth in total? 40. Paper 2 is worth a total of 96 marks. The 7 questions in section A are worth a total of 56 & the 1 transactional writing task in section B is worth 40. This should give you an idea of the quantity and quality of the response required for the transactional writing task!
