What are the seven food types needed in the diet? Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Fibre, Vitamins, Minerals, Water.
What percentage of the diet should carbohydrates take up? 55-60%
What percentage of the diet should proteins take up? 15-20%
What percentage of the diet should fats take up? No more than 35%
What is protein used for in the body? Growth and repair
What are carbs used for in the body? Energy (respiration)
What are fats used for in the body? Stored energy and insulation
What are vitamins used for in the body? Many things. Each vitamin does a different thing. E.g vit. D - healthy bones E.g vit. C helps absorb iron
What is iron used for in the body? Healthy blood.
What is calcium used for in the body? Bones, blood clotting properly, muscles, teeth

What is fibre used for in the body? Prevents constipation and bowel cancer.
What is water used for in the body? To replace water which is lost.
What foods do you get proteins and carbohydrates from? Name 5 each. Carbs - bread, pasta, potatoes, cereals, rice. Protein- meat, fish, eggs, beans, nuts.
What are macronutrients? Carbs, proteins, fats
What are micronutrients? Vitamins, minerals
