Gene A sequence of DNA that codes for a specific protein
Allele Different versions of the same gene
Dominant The character which is always expressed (only one copy of allele needed)
Recessive Two copies of the allele needed for it to be expressed.
Dominant disorder Only one copy needed of faulty allele to have the disorder
Recessive disorder Two copies of the faulty allele needed to have the disorder.
Homozygous Two alleles for a particular gene the same
Heterozygous Two alleles for a particular gene are different
Genotype What alleles you have
Phenotype The characteristic of those alleles.
