Question Answer
What is reduced hybrid variability When a hybrid zygote fails to form or the hybrid does not reach sexual maturity
What is hybrid breakdown Offspring of hybrids have reduced viability or fertility
Why might two species that can create a fertile hybrid still be two separate species? They might be temporal species that have to breed at different times of year or day based on climate or other factors
What is allopatric speciation? When two groups of a species are separated long enough that they evolve into two separate species. This is the most common speciation
What is sympathetic speciation? When a species becomes two or more different species while still in one group geographically
What causes only some organisms to survive in nature? Variability caused by random mutation effects wether or not an organism is successful. Also limited resources cause competition.
