Question Answer
How could climate change have caused the cretaceous extinction? as the inland seas regressed the earth would have cooled down. dinosaurs are cold blooded so they can't adjust there body heat.
How could a certain asteroid have caused the cretaceous extinction? every 26 million years an asteroid comes close to our solar system. it has been observed that a major extinction resulted each time.
How could population size have caused the cretaceous extinction? if the dinosaurs were too successful they could have totally depleted there resources and then died of starvation
How could an asteroid could have caused the cretaceous extinction? during the KT boundary period (the time when the Cretaceous period was ending and the tertiary) levels of the rare element iridium were much higher then normal. This element usually comes in large amounts when asteroids hit the planet. Also, the indented shape of the earths mantle in spots suggests that an asteroid 180-300 km in diameter hit the earth at this time. An asteroid that size would have create a dust and ash cloud that would majorly effect earths climate
The next era that follows is? the Cenozoic Era
the Cenozoic Era includes what time periods? Paleogene and Neogene periods
describe the Paleogene period. lasted from 65-23 million years ago when mammals, birds, and pollinating insects diversified. angiosperm dominance in creased and primates appeared.
Describe the Neogene period. lasted from 23 mya to recent times. The dominance of mammals and angiosperms continued and there were many ice ages that occurred because of global and regional cooling that created glaciers
Why might the glaciers have formed? (5) they could have been caused by a reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere, the change in continental positions, change of earths tilt between 22 and 25 degrees that happens every 41,000 years, changing earths orbit, the uplift of continental blocks, or even sun spots
