Question Answer
Give the equation for photosynthesis
What happens during photosynthesis? Light energy is absorbed by a green substance called chlorophyll - found in chloroplasts in some plant cells and algae This energy used to convert CO2 (from the air) and water (from the soil) into sugar (glucose) Oxygen released as by-product
What may limit the rate of photosynthesis? Low temperature Shortage of carbon dioxide Shortage of light (These factors interact and any one of them may be the factor that limits photosynthesis)
Question about what is says on spec ?
What can the glucose produced in photosynthesis be used for? Respiration Production of fat or oil for storage Production of cellulose, which strengthens cell wall Production of proteins Converted into insoluble starch for storage
What do plants also use to produce proteins? Nitrate ions that are absorbed from the soil
What conditions are carnivorous plants, such as the Venus Fly Trap, adapted to live in? Nutrient-poor soil because they obtain most of their nutrients from the animals, such as insects, they catch
