What is an adjective? An adjective describes a noun e.g. hard, wonky, cold
What is an adverb? An adverb describes a verb e.g. quickly, softly, angrily
What is a simile? A simile is like/as something e.g. cold as ice, cuddly like a teddy bear
What is a metaphor? A metaphor is something is something e.g. the sun is a killer
What is personification? Personification is giving something human characteristics e.g. the chair jumped
What is an oxymoron? An oxymoron is an opposite in the same phrase e.g. hot ice, cold fire
What is an onomatopoeia? An onomatopoeia is words that sound like sounds e.g. woosh, crack
What is repetition? Repetition is words that are said more than once e.g. cold weather, cold water
What is sibilance? Sibilance is words in a phrase all starting with "s" e.g. slithering snake slithered through the swamp
What is Alliteration? Alliteration is words in a phrase starting with the same letter e.g. tiny tiger
What is rule of 3? Rule of 3 is 3 words describing something e.g. warm, nice, fluffy blanket
What is a caesura? A caesura is punctuation in the middle of a line in a poem
What is an end stop? An end stop is a line in a poem that ends with a full stop
What is enjambment? Enjambment is a line in a poem that carries on to the next line
