Breadwinner The person in the household who is the main income earner.
Cohabiting Partners living together without being married.
Domestic division of labour How household tasks are divided between family members (this can be fair or unfair)
Lone-parent family A family which consists of children and just one parent.
Cereal packet family The traditional image of the nuclear family presented through the media. This family type has traditional, separate male and female roles.
Nuclear family A family group consisting of the father, mother, and their dependent children. The ideal family for Functionalists.
