LEPCHA TRIBE Lepcha is a tribe of Himalayan range live at the North-East corner of India. They largely resides at Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Bhutan, Sikkim and Darjeeling.
SIKKIM LEPCHA ART WELL KNOWN FOR HANDLOOM WEAVING PATTERNS. USED IN SHOULDER BAGS,NAPKINS ,CUSHION COVERS ETC.
The traditional Lepcha fabric is characterized by intricate and colourful motifs arranged in a vertical striped pattern.
Traditional design with different colours are used to make tharas which are used for making :- bedspreads, bags, belts, curtains, cushion covers, table mats, tray cloths .
.It is woven out of yarns made of cotton and wool. Lepcha weaves or 'thara' is woven in vertical looms with a backstrap. Such looms are of small width.
